The GIANT PRAWN Conferences were founded by Michael New OBE. The first was held in Bangkok in 1980, followed by two other conferences in India (2003 and 2011). The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) organized the 2017 Edition in Bangkok, Thailand, and the GIANT PRAWN 2023 at Shanghai Ocean University (SHOU), China.

GIANT PRAWN 2023 is the 6th Conference in the series, jointly organized by AIT, Thailand, and SHOU, China.
